Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
